Liverpool have reportedly suffered a blow in their pursuit of former Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic. They are looking to sign him in the summer next year but the American is keen on staying at AC Milan.
Pulisic spent over four years at Chelsea after joining them from Borussia Dortmund in 2019. He made 145 appearances for them, scoring 26 goals and providing 19 assists. However, he fell down in the pecking order towards the end of his stint at Stamford Bridge and joined AC Milan in the summer of 2023.
Pulisic's contract with the Rossoneri is set to expire in 2027 and as per Calciomercato (via The Hard Tackle), Liverpool are interested in signing him. However, the American forward wants to stay with the Italian giants. Milan are also keen to keep him and are set to offer him a new contract. It will see his wages rise from €4 million to €5 million per year.
Pulisic has made 70 appearances for the Rossoneri, scoring 23 goals and providing 17 assists. Manchester United have also been linked with a potential move for the American but he appears set to stay at Milan.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot reacts to Chelsea's draw against Everton
Liverpool have been the best team in the Premier League this season under Arne Slot. They have lost just one game across competitions and sit atop the league table. Their closest challengers have been Chelsea, who also have a new coach in Enzo Maresca.
The Blues, however, fell four points behind the Reds, having played one less game after this weekend's fixtures. While Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 6-3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw at Everton. After their win over Spurs, Arne Slot said about the Blues' draw against the Toffees (via 90min):
"That's the Premier League. I didn't expect Chelsea to drop points today as well, so it can happen in every game and that's what makes this league so special. That's why people want to see it and that's why we play at Christmas time."
The Reds will next host Leicester City at Anfield on Boxing Day (December 26) and end their year at West Ham United on December 29. Meanwhile, the Blues will host Fulham on Boxing Day and face Ipswich Town away on December 30.
