Liverpool have earmarked Bayern Munich's Leroy Sane as the leading candidate to replace Mohamed Salah, according to Fichajes.net. The Egyptian King has yet to reach an agreement with the Reds over a new deal. As it stands, he is set to depart Anfield as a free agent next summer.

Salah has made a bright start to the season for Liverpool, garnering four goals and four assists in seven appearances across competitions. However, the Reds have reportedly been planning to replace him in the near future, should he not sign a new deal this season.

Arne Slot and Co. have taken an interest in Sane, with his ability to adapt to the Premier League being viewed as a key factor. The Germany international enjoyed a stellar spell under Pep Guardiola between 2016 and 2020, helping Manchester City win eight trophies.

The 28-year-old has also excelled for Bayern, scoring 49 goals and providing 50 assists in 177 appearances. The Bavarians are also allegedly willing to listen to offers for Sane, which could pave the way for the Reds to sign him next summer.

However, if Salah were to leave at the end of the season, it would be a tall task for any player to replace the 32-year-old. He has established himself as one of the best wingers in Premier League history. He's netted 215 goals and garnered 93 assists in 356 appearances across competitions for the Merseysiders.

Chris Sutton makes his prediction for Wolves vs Liverpool

BBC Sport columnist Chris Sutton has backed Liverpool to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in their upcoming Premier League fixture. The two sides will face each other at the Molineux on Saturday, September 28.

The Reds have won their last three games in all competitions. They are currently second in the league standings with 12 points, one point behind leaders Manchester City. Meanwhile, Wolves have endured a tough start to the season and are in last place with just a point to their name.

Sutton wrote (via BBC Sport):

"Wolves have not been as bad as their results suggest but I suspect the fans' patience is wearing a bit thin with their manager, Gary O'Neil. That is slightly unfortunate, and unfair, because overall he did well last season, but the way Wolves ended the last campaign poorly and have started this one the same way does not help him, clearly."

He added:

"This game probably won't do much for his cause, either. It is hard to look past a Liverpool win, based on their firepower and their strength off the bench. They wiped the floor with Bournemouth last week and, while this will be closer, I still think Liverpool will win it."

Sutton's Prediction: 1-2
