Liverpool are ready to include Ben Doak to sweeten a deal for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, according to The Mirror (via The Sun). The Reds are sweating on the future of Mohamed Salah, whose contract expires at the end of this season.
The Egyptian has been in outstanding form this season under Arne Slot, scoring 21 goals and setting up 17 more from 28 games across competitions. However, the 32-year-old is yet to agree to a new deal and as things stand, could leave as a free agent this summer.
The Merseyside club are locked in talks regarding a new deal, but are also keeping their options open. They have reportedly identified Semenyo as a possible replacement for Salah.
The Ghanaian has caught the eye with Bournemouth this season, registering six goals and three assists from 21 games across competitions. His efforts have helped the Cherries rise to seventh in the Premier League and also caused a stir at Anfield.
Bournemouth have reportedly slapped a £50m fee on their prized asset, although any deal will have to wait until the end of the season. Liverpool are now planning to include Doak in a player-plus-cash deal for Semenyo.
The Cherries are said to have an interest in the Scottish forward, and the Reds are planning to use that to their advantage. Doak is currently earning rave reviews on loan at Middlesbrough and is also highly rated at Anfield. However, the Merseyside club are ready to sacrifice their rising talent to secure the services of Semenyo.
Will Liverpool sign a new right-back this year?
Liverpool are still reportedly trying to tie Trent Alexander-Arnold down to a new deal. The Englishman's contract at Anfield expires at the end of this season and he remains heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has stated that Kyle Walker wants to leave Manchester City.
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Reds striker Dean Saunders urged the club to target Walkers as Alexander-Arnold's replacement.
“Do you want me to chuck a spanner in the works? So it looks like Trent [Alexander-Arnold] is leaving, why don’t Liverpool sign him (Kyle Walker)? There you go, he’d be a good signing for Liverpool if Trent goes,” said Saunders.
He continued:
“I know they’ve got the young kid [Conor Bradley] coming through… By the way, he’s still quick and if Trent is leaving…”
Los Blancos have reportedly identified Alexander-Arnold as Dani Carvajal's successor.
