Liverpool interested in Bundesliga star linked with Chelsea as they search for Mohamed Salah replacement: Reports

Arne Slot's side and Enzo Maresca's club are both keen to sign Jamie Gittens.

Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund attacker Jamie Gittens, who has also emerged on Chelsea's radar of late, as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Gittens, who is a former Chelsea and Manchester City youth star, has cemented himself as a vital starter for Dortmund this season. He has registered nine goals and five assists in 23 total appearances for the Bundesliga team this term.

According to DaveOCKOP, Liverpool scouts have watched Gittens in a number of matches so far this season. They have been impressed with the performances of the right-footed winger, who has also drawn attention from Chelsea of late.

Furthermore, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Dortmund are prepared to part ways with Gittens with a host of English outfits monitoring the player's situation. He said on his YouTube channel (h/t DaveOCKOP):

"My understanding is Borussia Dortmund feel that, in 2025, probably summer more than January, it will be difficult to keep Gittens at the club. The interest from Premier League clubs is more than strong. Premier League clubs are really, really following closely the progress of Gittens at Dortmund. Dortmund are looking at wingers because, for the long-term, they need to cover that position."

Should Gittens secure a switch to Liverpool this year, he could prove to be a clever signing for them. He would provide competition on both flanks and potentially pop up as a replacement for Salah should the latter leave on a free transfer.

Ex-Liverpool star Danny Murphy says Chelsea require experience amid below-par run of form

Last Saturday (January 4), the Blues recorded a 1-1 league draw at Crystal Palace, extending their winless run to four matches. After Cole Palmer's 14th-minute goal, Jean-Philippe Mateta found the back of the net in the 82nd minute.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy shared his thoughts on Chelsea's current run of form. He opined (h/t Metro):

"It's game management where Chelsea are lacking at times. They need to know when to slow things down, having some men drop off, having someone sitting alongside Moises Caicedo in the base of midfield, instead of this constant trying to go forward."

Murphy, who made 417 Premier League appearances as a player, said:

"Against Fulham, it was similar today. It ended up being end-to-end and like a basketball game towards the end, and they lost. There is still the quality there and they are a young side. I still think they will be strong in the second half of the season."

The Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League table with 36 points, 10 points off leaders Liverpool who have played 19 games, from 20 matches.
