Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea's Josh Acheampong, with the Blues taking stringent measures to stop a potential transfer. The right-back made his debut as a substitute under former coach Mauricio Pochettino in a 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur on May 2, 2024.
The Englishman was also in the squad for Chelsea's pre-season USA tour ahead of more experienced candidates like Trevor Chalobah. However, he has just made one appearance for the senior side since Enzo Maresca's arrival this season. Acheampong replaced Axel Disasi in Chelsea's 5-0 win over Barrow at the EFL Cup round three on September 24.
According to a report by @TheAnfieldTalk on X, Liverpool are interested in signing the young right-back whose current contract for the Blues expires in 2026. However, Enzo Maresca's side are reportedly 'worried' and want Josh Acheampong to sign a new deal.
For Liverpool, the options at right-back are relatively limited, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley serving as the only choices for Arne Slot. Moreover, Alexander-Arnold's contract will expire in June 2025, leaving the Reds in real need to bolster that position.
A report from The Athletic explains how Acheampong has allegedly been blocked from playing by his club unless he agrees to sign a new contract. The English youngster wasn't named in Chelsea's games against West Ham United and Bournemouth last month despite right-backs Reece James and Malo Gusto being sidelined with injuries.
Additionally, he hasn't featured for the Under-21 side for a whole month despite starting four of their first five games this season. However, he made two appearances for England's Under-20 side during the recent international break.
Liverpool interested in signing former Chelsea target Samu Omorodion as Darwin Nunez's replacement - Reports
According to a report by Fichajes.net (via Caught Offside), Liverpool are interested in bringing FC Porto striker Samu Omorodion to Anfield.
The Spanish marksman joined FC Porto from Atletico Madrid in 2024 and has already bagged seven goals in as many games, including a Europa League brace in their 3-3 draw against Manchester United on October 3.
Liverpool acquired Darwin Nunez's services in 2022 for a reported fee of £85 million (via This Is Anfield). However, the Uruguayan hasn't lived up to his billing, managing just 34 goals and 18 assists in 104 games for Liverpool across competitions. As a result, the club are reportedly looking for someone to replace Nunez.
Chelsea were heavily linked with Omorodion in the last transfer window. The Blues had reportedly agreed to a £34.5 million transfer deal with Atletico Madrid with his medical tests on the horizon. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Omorodion was due to sign a seven-year contract with the Blues following a medical.
However, the deal eventually collapsed and the Spaniard signed for FC Porto instead. According to The Athletic, the reason behind the failure was a major contract issue.
