Liverpool are likely to be the favorites in the race for Tyler Dibling, according to journalist Craig Hope. The teenage winger has caught the eye with Southampton this season and is also wanted at Newcastle United.
Dibling has registered two goals and two assists from 21 games across competitions for the Saints this season. He has been a rare shining light in a dismal season for Southampton, who are languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Still only 18, the Englishman is expected to get even better with the right guidance. Arne Slot has enjoyed a tremendous start to his reign with Liverpool but remains focused on continuous improvements.
The Reds are looking at the market for squad reinforcements as well, with a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah on their radar. The Egyptian superstar's contract at Anfield expires at the end of this season and he is yet to sign an extension.
While the Merseyside club is expected to tie him down to a new deal, they are also keeping an eye out for the future. Dibling could be an option for the job, while the teenager is also comfortable carrying out various roles across the midfield as well.
The player is under contract with Southampton until 2027, but renewal talks haven't been fruitful so far. Liverpool could also have a free run at Dibling if Southampton get relegated from the Premier League this season.
When will Liverpool be back in action?
Liverpool are preparing to lock horns with bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday, January 5, in the Premier League. The Reds arrive at the game on a three-game winning run in the league.
Their opponents, meanwhile, are struggling to come to terms with Ruben Amorim's system and have lost four of their last five games in the league. The Red Devils are 14th in the Premier League after 19 games, with six wins and nine defeats to their name.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are at the top of the pile after 18 games. The Reds have taken to Arne Slot's tactics like fish to water, winning 14 games in the league and losing just once.
The Merseyside club have scored 45 goals in the Premier League and conceded just 17 so far. They have also been outstanding in the Champions League, where they have won all six games and are leading the table. Slot's men have scored 13 goals and conceded just once in Europe this season.
