Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal are reportedly in a three-horse race to sign the £50 million-rated Atalanta midfielder Ederson. This is according to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, who say that these teams could battle it out for the player's signature next year (via TeamTalk).
There is a need for a new defensive midfielder at the Etihad Stadium after learning that Manchester City will be without Rodri for the remainder of the season. Currently, the likes of Rico Lewis and Mateo Kovacic are filling in for the missing Spain international.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot failed to bring in a new number six in the summer transfer window. This has resulted in Dutch star Ryan Gravenberch performing the part this campaign. Although a natural box-to-box midfielder, many would say that he's looked good at the base of the Reds midfield.
Finally, the links to Arsenal seem rather surprising after the Gunners managed to sign central midfielder Mikel Merino this summer. The north Londoners already have Thomas Partey, Jorginho and Declan Rice to play the deeper midfield roles, thereby reducing the need for a player like Ederson.
A move for any of these sides would still cost a fair bit, with the Brazil international's contract at his current club valid till the summer of 2027. However, if he does choose to move to either of these sides, he would be taking a step in the right direction.
Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal comprise the current top three in the Premier League standings, with only a point separating the trio. The Reds are leading the race in the league this year after seven matches.
Manchester City looking to sign Liverpool target after Rodri injury - Reports
Manchester City are reportedly looking to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as they seek to replace the injured Rodri. This is as per a report from Spanish outlet Relevo, who say that the Cityzens wish to trigger the player's €60 million release clause in January (via Mirror).
The Spain international was previously linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer. However, it seems as though Zubimendi turned down a move to Anfield, as was later confirmed by club manager Arne Slot.
The 25-year-old mainly operates in the same role as Rodri and has made 198 appearances across competitions for his La Liga side, bagging nine goals. He may have to consider the game time he will see with Manchester City once Rodri returns while making a decision on this transfer.
