Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly set to face off for former Chelsea defender Marc Guehi. Newcastle United are also said to be interested in the Englishman, who currently plays for Crystal Palace, despite their reported failed attempts in the summer.
As per a report in Football Insider, Guehi is on the top of the defensive wishlists for Liverpool and Manchester United. Both clubs are trying to sign the Crystal Palace star in January to bolster their respective defenses.
Newcastle United also continue to track Guehi after having a bid of over £65 million rejected by Palace in the summer. There are still doubts about whether the defender wishes to make a switch as he claimed in the summer that he was happy at Selhurst Park. He said (via Football365):
"I am (happy). It is good to be back here, to be playing again with team-mates and a (pre-season) run-out in front of some of the fans again, so it is all positive. I am humbled by that (Parish comments) - for someone who is a big part of this football club, for him to say something like that is amazing for someone like me. I am not sure I am a superstar, but it was some really kind words from the chairman."
Guehi's contract with the London-based club expires in 2026.
Liverpool urged to sign Manchester United target by Glen Johnson
Former England defender Glen Johnson has urged Liverpool to sign Marc Guehi in the January window. He believes the defender will want to join the Reds, who will benefit highly from the signing .
He told BetFred:
"At centre-back, I'd say Marc Guéhi. He'd cope fine being the left-sided centre-half and the fact that he didn't move in the summer proves that he's still available. I think he'd bite your arm off at the opportunity to sign for Liverpool and I believe it would be a great deal.
"In regards to a defensive midfielder, I was hoping they would have signed Adrien Rabiot when he was a free agent. That's not very likely anymore because he's joined Marseille, but I think they've missed out on a good player that was a free agent. Those deals don't come around often for experienced players at his level."
Chelsea were also reportedly interested in the defender this summer. As per Metro, they have a 20% sell-on clause in Guehi's Palace contract.
