Liverpool are reportedly keeping an eye on Lyon youngster Rayan Cherki as they are keen on bringing him to Anfield in the 2025 summer transfer window. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) too have expressed an interest in the 21-year-old as their transfer adviser Luis Ocampos a big fan of the player, according to L'Equipe.
Cherki's current deal at Lyon runs until 2026, meaning he will have only a year remaining on his contract by next summer window. In seven league matches this season, the attacking midfielder has scored one goal and bagged an assist.
Liverpool will want to add him to their ranks given the uncertainty over the future of the legendary Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian's contract expires in the summer of 2025, with reports claiming talks over an extension are ongoing. However, the Reds are vary that replacing a player of Salah's stature will need time and are thus already drawing out succession plans.
Cherki, who primarily likes to play as a central attacking midfielder, can also slot in on either wing. His versatility can thus be of great benefit to the side that manages to sign him next.
L'Equipe also claim that he dreams of playing for Real Madrid. The Lyon star was reportedly being courted by Chelsea as well.
Chelsea and Newcastle United had expressed an interest in Cherki before Liverpool
Liverpool are not the first Premier League club to show interest in Cherki. Before them, Chelsea and Newcastle United too were keeping an eye on him, according to TBRFootball. The Blues, who are looking to bolster their attacking options, will want to give Liverpool a run for their money in this transfer battle.
The Reds are leading the Premier League table at the moment with 28 points to their name. They are closely followed by Manchester City, who are second with 23 points. Chelsea, on the other hand, are third under new manager Enzo Maresca, after having amassed 19 points so far this campaign.
