Liverpool have reportedly decided to sell Trent Alexander-Arnold in January if Real Madrid matches their asking price. The Reds are looking for €25 million to let the Englishman leave in the winter window.

As per a report in AS and Daily Mail, Liverpool rejected the €10 million offer from Real Madrid as they look to sign him six months before his contract expires. They are ready to return with a better offer of €15 million, but the Premier League side is unwilling to accept the offer.

The Anfield side have set a €25 million price tag on the right-back and will not accept anything less. The two clubs have begun talks to get a deal done this month, but Los Blancos have no plans to match the asking price set.

Alexander-Arnold has not signed a new deal at Anfield and will be a free agent in the summer. He has an offer from the Reds, but the negotiations have not got him close to penning the deal on his table.

Former Liverpool players believe Real Madrid move is on for Trent Alexander-Arnold

Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher have stated that Trent Alexander-Arnold is all but set on the Real Madrid move. They believe that the Liverpool star has checked out of the Anfield club and will be leaving for Spain in January or the summer.

Carragher was the first to comment on the situation and stated that the Reds should focus on the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, and not put any player's contract situation ahead of it. He posted on X:

"The most important thing for Liverpool in 2025 is winning the Premier League. No one’s contract or future should come in the way of that! I love Trent as a lad & a player, but his team would’ve told Real Madrid to bid & also would’ve known LFC would turn it down. It’s to try & cover themselves when he leaves for free. Again it’s something the club/fans don’t need with a huge game coming up."

Owen went on to claim that the first bid from Los Blancos shows that the move is happening behind the scenes and said on X:

"The very fact that Real Madrid have now made their intentions clear towards signing Trent Alexander Arnold leads me to believe that it’s only a matter of time before he signs for them. If he was going to sign a contract extension, Madrid wouldn’t have officially made their move. Secretive talks will have taken place. Huge news."

Apart from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool also has the contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to take care of this season.
