Liverpool have reportedly identified Premier League players Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo as replacements for Mohamed Salah. Mbeumo and Semenyo play for Brentford and Bournemouth, respectively.
While Salah has been on an impressive run of form this season (nine goals and seven assists in 15 games), he has been linked with an exit from the club. The Merseyside club are yet to offer Salah an extension, with his contract expiring at the end of this season. Although the 32-year-old Egyptian forward is approaching the twilight years of his career, his goal-scoring form doesn’t appear to be waning.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool have scouted Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, 25, and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, 24, as the club are on the lookout for targets that could play for Arne Slot. Apart from the fact that they are younger than Salah, both players are flying high in the Premier League this season.
Semenyo has scored four goals in 10 league games this season, compared to the eight he scored in 33 appearances last season. Mbeumo has scored eight goals in nine Premier League outings while he had nine goals in 25 games last season. This perhaps explains why Liverpool are interested in both players.
Amid these developments, Mohamed Salah has revealed that he is willing to extend his stay at the Merseyside club. He has already notched up seven goals and five assists in 10 league games this season.
Chris Sutton waxes lyrical about Mohamed Salah’s goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion
Former player-turned-pundit Chris Sutton was impressed by Mohamed Salah’s goal against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday (November 2). Sutton described Salah’s goal as ‘unbelievable’ and opined that no goalkeeper could prevent the strike from going into the net.
Salah got himself on the scoresheet in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over the Seagulls at Anfield. The Egyptian king turned the tie for the Reds three minutes after Cody Gakpo restored parity (69'). He received a pass from Curtis Jones, resulting from a counterattack, and then cut in to curl home past Bart Verbruggen.
Chris Sutton was effusive while talking about the goal. He said (via Rousing the Kop):
“This is an unbelievable finish from Mohamed Salah. Curtis Jones plays the ball into him and he gets the run on Pervis Estupinan. Then you just know what’s going to happen next. The goal opens up and Salah finds the far top corner. No goalkeeper is saving that.”
Salah’s goal against Brighton made it the second time he scored in three consecutive Premier League games this season. The Egypt international scored in the first three league games and the last three league games.
Also, the goal saw him move to the eighth position on the list of the all-time Premier League top scorers, surpassing Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler. Salah has scored 164 goals and provided 74 assists in 273 league games.
