Liverpool defender and England international Trent Alexander-Arnold has allegedly lodged a mammoth bid to buy Ligue 1 outfit FC Nantes.
Nantes, who are owned by French businessman Waldemar Kita, endured a difficult campaign last time around. They finished 14th in the Ligue 1 standings with just 33 points from 34 matches. However, they have opened the 2024-25 season on a fine note, recording two victories, one draw, and just one defeat in four league matches so far.
Now, according to French newspaper L'Equipe, Alexander-Arnold is aiming to take over Nantes with a £84 million takeover bid. The bid is thought to include a straight £67 million plus a seller credit of £17 million and has various potential bonuses of up to around £34 million.
Alexander-Arnold's father, Michael Arnold, is reportedly keen to grow the Liverpool ace's investments in France. The 25-year-old, who is a minority shareholder of the Alpine F1 Team, was keen to purchase Saint-Etienne and Le Havre before setting his sights on Nantes.
Nantes, meanwhile, will next be in action in a Ligue 1 contest against Angers SCO at Stade Raymond Kopa this Sunday (September 22).
Trent Alexander-Arnold says Liverpool boss Arne Slot is quite flexible with his strategies
After Liverpool's 3-1 UEFA Champions League win at AC Milan earlier on Tuesday, Trent Alexander-Arnold was asked to shed light on his role under Reds boss Arne Slot. He replied to CBS Sports:
"It changes fluidly throughout games depending on how the opponents press us, so there are a lot of tactical changes within games: where to go, where not to go, when to stay wide, when to drop into the back line, when to go into midfield, when to be kind of like a No.8, or when Mo [Salah] rolls inside and I'm a high winger."
Sharing further thoughts on Slot's plans, the right-back continued:
"There's all different variations and he gives us that information throughout the week, leading up to the game. He paints scenarios so we have answers for everything, so it's kind of like: 'Okay, if they press this way then this is where we're going to be positioned and if they press a different way, then we'll position ourselves a different way. There's a solution to every problem that they pose at us."
Alexander-Arnold, whose Reds deal will expire next June, has started all five of his appearances across competitions for Liverpool this term.
Liverpool will next host Bournemouth this Saturday (September 21).
