Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is allegedly set to be sidelined for upto two weeks after suffering a hamstring injury earlier this weekend.
Alexander-Arnold, 26, started the Reds' 2-0 Premier League home win over Aston Villa earlier this Saturday (November 9). But, he was replaced by Conor Bradley in the 25th minute of the clash at Anfield.
Now, according to The Times journalist Paul Joyce, Alexander-Arnold will withdraw from international duty with England following his recent hamstring problem. He is set to miss England's UEFA Nations League outings against Greece and Republic of Ireland this month.
Alexander-Arnold, who avoided worsening his injury by coming off early earlier this Saturday, is allegedly not ruled out of Liverpool's league game at Southampton on November 24. He could also start his side's upcoming games against Real Madrid and Manchester City.
So far this season, Alexander-Arnold has helped Liverpool record nine shutouts in 15 matches across competitions. The Reds vice-captain has provided two assists from right-back new head coach Arne Slot.
Liverpool superstar optimistic about campaign
After his side's recent triumph over Unai Emery's side, Reds captain Virgil van Dijk shared his honest thoughts on their progress since the end of last season. He said (h/t liverpoolfc.com):
"We should have learned from last year. If you don't learn, then it doesn't bring you any further. We're only in November but I see us dealing with difficult moments pretty well [so far]. We had a couple of games where we bounced back after going behind. The mentality of the boys to turn it around was amazing."
Remaining optimistic about the rest of the 2024-25 season, he added:
"Maybe towards the end of a season the pressure is higher. Then everyone has to be there and step up. I can't predict how the last part of the season will go. But so far, so good. For me, it's quite easy to say, but I just want to enjoy it. Go out there, all of us are privileged and blessed to be playing for Liverpool and have players around you with so much quality. Let's see what it brings."
The Reds are currently five points ahead of holders Manchester City with 28 points from 11 matches in the 2024-25 Premier League standings.
Van Dijk, 33, has started all 15 of his appearances across competitions for his club this season. He has registered two goals and one assist so far.
