Premier League giants Liverpool have reportedly rejected Real Madrid's offer to sign right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in January. The Liverpool academy graduate has been one of the mainstays for the Merseysiders since making his senior side debut in 2016.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the most offensive right-backs in Europe with a penchant for producing inch-perfect crosses into the penalty box. This has helped him rack up 85 assists in addition to 20 goals in 333 appearances for the Reds across competitions.
Alexander-Arnold's contract will expire at the end of this season with no confirmation of a renewal. This has created speculation among fans about the Englishman's future.
As per British journalist Paul Joyce (h/t Madrid Xtra), the Merseysiders have rejected Real Madrid's offer to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in January. He is, however, allowed to open discussions with Los Blancos in January 2025 for a potential transfer next summer.
Liverpool have arguably been the best side in Europe so far. The Reds have lost only one match this season and are at the summit of the Premier League table with 45 points in 18 games. In the UEFA Champions League, they have won all six of their group games so far.
Arne Slot opened up about Trent Alexander-Arnold's goal celebration after Liverpool's win vs. West Ham
Liverpool boss Arne Slot spoke about Trent Alexander-Arnold's goal celebration after his side thrashed West Ham United 5-0 in their last league game of the year on December 29. The win at the London Stadium took them eight points ahead of second-placed Nottingham Forest with a game in hand.
Trent Alexander-Arnold scored his first goal of the season against West Ham. While celebrating, he made a signal to fans that resembled a shushing gesture. Several fans construed it as the Englishman replying to fans speculating about his move to Real Madrid next season.
In the post-match interview, Arne Slot was asked about the right-back's celebration. The Dutch manager was candid and opined that media reports were just chatter. He said (via METRO):
"No, I don’t think it’s negative at all. He’s playing really well, scored a great goal and the way he celebrated his goal probably tells you enough. I don’t think I have to say much more about it."
Fans expected Liverpool's season to take a wobble with Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp. However, the Dutch tactician has been near-perfect and en route to winning multiple trophies with his new club.
