Liverpool are allegedly prepared to launch a move to rope in Georgia and Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has impressed at the UEFA Euro 2024 so far, this summer.
Mamardashvili, 23, has established himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in the La Liga since initially arriving on loan from Dinamo Tbilisi in 2021. He rose to fame owing to his performances for Valencia last season, keeping 13 clean sheets in 37 league appearances.
A left-footed towering goalkeeper, Mamardashvili has been in fine form at the Euro 2024. He has made a staggering 20 saves and registered one clean sheet in three games, guiding Georgia to the last-16 stage.
Now, according to journalist Diego Pico, Liverpool have popped up as the favorites ahead of Newcastle United to sign Mamardashvili ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. They are keen to sign the star as Alisson Becker has lately drawn interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Liverpool, who finished third in the 2023-24 Premier League table, are believed to be willing to lodge an exorbitant bid to sign Mamardashvili. Valencia are seeking a fee greater than £34 million for their player.
Mamardashvili will next be in action for Georgia in their Euro 2024 last-16 contest against Luis de la Fuente's Spain this Sunday (June 30).
Fabrizio Romano sheds light on Liverpool's recent interest in England's Euro 2024 star
In his Daily Briefing column for Caught Offside, journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Liverpool's pursuit of Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon has come to a halt. He wrote:
"[They] really like the player, but they are not going to pay what Newcastle are currently demanding for Gordon, so the feeling is that this story is unlikely for the next 24 hours, for the Financial Fair Play deadline for English clubs. The only way is for a crazy proposal and at the moment they are not considering paying that money, so it’s really complicated."
Claiming that Newcastle are not desperate to sell Gordon, he added:
"It was an opportunity discussed due to Newcastle's financial situation, but that's it – it was never close or advanced as there was big gap on valuation. It's also important to say that Newcastle have now sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliott Anderson so the story is over for now, Liverpool keep appreciating Gordon but not moving forward as of now."
Since arriving from Everton for £45 million in January 2023, Gordon has registered 13 goals and 11 assists in 64 matches for Newcastle.
Gordon, 23, could be in action for England in their Euro 2024 last-16 clash against Slovakia at Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen on June 30.
