Manchester City could land 27-year-old Premier League star at surprise bargain price: Reports

Manchester City can potentially sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in the upcoming winter transfer window for a price much less than £100 million, as per the Athletic.

After the Magpies suffered a 4-2 loss against Brentford on December 7, the Brazilian midfielder stated that he was disappointed with the team's performance. Newcastle United are currently 12th in the league table with 23 points in 16 appearances.

As per the aforementioned report, Bruno Guimaraes is unhappy with his teammates and as a result, he could depart from Newcastle to join Pep Guardiola's City. The Brazilian attacker can join the Etihad outfit at a bargain price, much less than his release clause of £100 million.

The 27-year-old is also liked by City boss Pep Guardiola and can play a crucial role in City's playing XI. Chris Waugh said via The Athletic:

"Guimaraes is liked by Guardiola, has Premier League experience and operates as a No. 6. With every defeat, Manchester City's desperation to strengthen mid-season increases."

City can complete Bruno Guimaraes' deal between a reported fee of £60 million to £80 million. The 27-year-old joined the Magpies in January 2022 from Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon for a reported £40 million. Since then, he has made 126 appearances for the side, bagging 18 goals and 19 assists across all competitions.

However, as per the aforementioned report, the German midfielder has decided to stay at least one more season at the Bundesliga champions. Moreover, the 21-year-old has already agreed to a contract with Leverkusen for the next season.

Florian Wirtz has become a top name on the transfer radar of multiple top European clubs after last season. He bagged 18 goals and 20 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions for Xabi Alonso's Bundesliga-winning Bayer Leverkusen.

City wanted to sign the 21-year-old midfielder as a replacement for Belgium's Kevin de Bruyne. Meanwhile, Los Blancos see the German midfielder as a long-term successor for Toni Kroos, who retired from professional football after the 2024 European Championships.
