Manchester City set to rival PL club in transfer battle to sign Euro 2024 star - Reports

Manchester City are reportedly prepared to rival Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur as they look to battle for Euro 2024 star Dani Olmo. It is hardly a surprise that the attacking midfielder has become a target for many clubs, thanks to his impressive performances this summer.

Olmo, who plays for RB Leipzig, has been one of Spain's best players at Euro 2024 in Germany. He has been instrumental in leading La Roja to the semi-finals, scoring twice and providing two assists in four appearances. He scored a goal and provided an assist in their 2-1 win over Germany in the quarter-finals.

These quality performances have not been ignored by some of Europe's biggest clubs. Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly making plans to move for the 26-year-old. However, they will be concerned about Premier League champions Manchester City. According to a report from Sky Germany (via TBR Football), the Cityzens have set their sights on Olmo.

Essentially, the Spaniard could be a remarkable replacement for Kevin de Bruyne, who is now in his 30s and might opt for a move to Saudi Arabia this summer. If the Belgian superstar does end up leaving the Etihad Stadium, Olmo may be more attracted to the Manchester City sporting project.

The Cityzens have cemented themselves as a trophy-winning club and are dominating the Premier League regularly. They have won the league title a record four times in a row. They are also strong contenders to win the UEFA Champions League next season, alongside heavyweights like Real Madrid.

This may come off as a better option than Tottenham, who missed out on the top four last season and have struggled to win trophies in recent years.

When Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola spoke about Dani Olmo

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has spoken about Dani Olmo in the past. Back in 2019, the Cityzens faced the attacking midfielder's former club Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League, with City winning 4-1.

However, the young Spaniard was a shining light for the Croatian side, scoring the first goal of the game, before they were overpowered by the Cityzens. After the game, Guardiola spoke about the then-youngster, telling the press (via Bleacher Report):

"He's a top player—he has a bright future, of course. His performance today shows it. About the transfer and the money he deserves, that is not the point. The point is he is an incredible player and I am pretty sure he is able to play in the strong leagues in Europe. Hopefully if Dinamo wants and he wants, it can happen."

Dani Olmo notably left the Croatian club a month after, opting for a move to RB Leipzig in January 2020, where he has played ever since. Pep Guardiola had also addressed rumors about Manchester City signing him at the time, adding:

"According to the press we want to sign 100 players a month and, of course, Olmo is one of them. We will see what happens."

The Cityzens could yet see the long-admired Spaniard join their ranks in the coming weeks if a move is indeed underway.
