Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi and Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton ahead of the winter transfer window. As reported by TEAMtalk, Pep Guardiola is set to be backed by the Cityzens to turn his side's fortunes around.
Guardiola is going through the toughest period of his entire career right now, with Manchester City losing eight of their last 11 games. They have won only one game during this forgettable run and have drawn twice.
It has been reported that Guardiola is looking to bolster his midfield options, with Ballon d'Or winner Rodri out with an ACL injury. He is believed to be keen on Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi and Crystal Palace youngster Adam Wharton.
Zubimendi was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer and the Reds reportedly triggered his £50.1 million release clause. However, he snubbed the Reds to stay at his boyhood club but continues to attract interest from clubs across Europe.
The Spanish midfielder has spent his entire career at Real Sociedad, having come through the club's youth ranks. He has made 209 appearances for Txuri-Urdin till date scoring nine times while producing nine assists.
Meanwhile, Wharton is another player Manchester City are reportedly keen on and view him as the heir to Rodri. The 20-year-old has been a revelation following his reported £22 million switch to Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers in January 2024.
Wharton has only made 10 appearances this season for the Eagles and has missed seven games with a groin injury. Palace are understood to be against the idea of letting Wharton depart in mid-season and value their priced asset at £60 million.
