Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will reportedly not continue with his current team if they fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. The Cityzens have been struggling lately, having placed sixth in the Premier League standings, four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
This report comes from InterLive today, which says the Manchester outfit are looking to move some of their older players on regardless (via SportWitness). Anyhow, the German midfielder's agreement at the Etihad Stadium also expires in the summer of 2025.
Gundogan rejoined Manchester City in 2024 for free after a short stint with Barcelona. However, he has played a prominent role under Pep Guardiola this season and could be a significant loss if these reports are true.
The former Borussia Dortmund star has started 13 of his 18 Premier League appearances this campaign. He's featured in the starting XI on four occasions in the UEFA Champions League and has also netted twice in this competition.
There has been a reliance on Gundogan this season due to a long-term injury to 2024 Ballon d'Or winner Rodri. However, the Cityzens do have other deep-lying midfield options like Mateo Kovacic.
Once Rodri does return, it is likely that Gundogan will probably play a smaller role. However, he's been a wonderful servant to Manchester City over the years, making 328 appearances across competitions, bagging 62 goals and 39 assists.
Gundogan has won the Premier League title five times and the UEFA Champions League once, among other honors at the Etihad. It is said that Inter Milan could be a potential destination for the German.
Bayern Munich want clear statement from midfielder amid Manchester City interest - Reports
Bayern Munich are reportedly seeking clarity on Joshua Kimmich's future in January, amid interest from top sides like Barcelona and Manchester City. This is as per a report from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who says that such a stance is unlikely to arrive in the winter transfer window (via City Xtra).
This will have fans tensed at the Allianz Arena, with Kimmich set to be available on a free transfer once his contract runs out in the summer of 2025. He's a versatile player who can play in a deep-lying midfield role and at right-back.
To date, the Germany international has made 414 appearances across competitions for Bayern Munich, bagging 43 goals and 110 assists. He's won eight Bundesliga title and one UEFA Champions League trophy, among other honors with the Bavarian outfit.
