Manchester United are reportedly set to battle West Ham United for the signature of Barcelona target Jonathan David. As reported by Spanish outlet Fichejes.net, the Red Devils have stepped up their chase for the Canada international.
David's current deal at LOSC Lille expires this summer and he looks resigned to leaving the French giants on a free transfer. The 24-year-old has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Barcelona.
However, Manchester United and West Ham United are also believed to be keen on the Canada international's signature. David has been a key player for Lille since his reported €30 million switch from Belgian side Gent in 2020.
The versatile attacker is capable of playing as a number nine, a second striker, and even on the flanks. His numbers at Lille have been impressive too, with 101 goals and 23 assists in 211 appearances.
David is a gifted attacker who boasts not only an ability to find the back of the net but also contributes a lot to the team with his link-up play. On top of that, the fact that he could be available for nothing makes him even more desirable.
Manchester United have struggled in the attacking department this season with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee not being up to the mark. The two attackers have scored just 11 goals between them across all competitions this season.
David, on the other hand, has 17 goals and five assists in 28 games across competitions this season. Barcelona have been heavily linked with David for a while now but their financial situation could see them missing out on the potential bargain.
