Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea are all interested in snapping up Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong in the future, according to famed journalist Ekrem Konur.
Frimpong, who played a crucial role in Leverkusen's domestic double-winning term last time around, has emerged as a hot topic of discussion of late. Although he has a contract until June 2028 at BayArena, he has a meagre release clause of around £34 million in his deal.
As a result, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea are all keen to add the 23-year-old right-back to their respective squads. The Dutchman has scored 15 goals and provided 16 assists in 54 games across competitions for Leverkusen since the start of last campaign.
Should Frimpong secure a transfer to Manchester United, he would provide stellar competition for Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui. Meanwhile, he could prove to be a fine replacement for Real Madrid target Trent Alexander-Arnold should he join the Merseyside club.
Lastly, Frimpong could stake a proper claim at a starting spot should he depart his club to join Chelsea. He would be preferred over Malo Gusto, who is starting over injured Reece James at Chelsea right now.
Manchester United legend claims Liverpool will push for Premier League title this term
Arne Slot's side have opened the 2024-25 season on an excellent note, registering four wins in five league games so far. They have shipped one league goal, coming in a recent 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest.
Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Manchester United great Paul Scholes said that the Reds could challenge Manchester City and Arsenal for the league title this campaign. He said (h/t Mirror):
"I think Liverpool might have something to say about the title race this year. When I look at their forward players, I think they have five or six good players. Seeing Liverpool first-hand, what a squad of players, I see very little weaknesses. The only one we thought about was possibly [a weakness] if Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate got injured in the centre-half position."
Hailing the Merseyside outfit's great squad depth, Scholes concluded:
"I see their squad, the five or six midfield players who can all run and are great athletes with quality. You look at the forwards, and they can all play. The only worry was the Forest game, that threw me."
Slot's side are second in the Premier League table with 12 points from five games, while Manchester United are 11th with seven points so far.
