Manchester United are reportedly set to lock horns with Arsenal for the services of Dusan Vlahovic. The Red Devils are looking for a new striker to lead the line under Ruben Amorim and apparently have their eyes on the Serbian.
Vlahovic has registered 12 goals from 20 appearances across competitions for Juventus this season. His efforts have apparently earned him admirers at the Emirates as well as Old Trafford.
Speaking to Football Insider, Manchester United's former chief scout, Mick Brown, claimed that the club will face competition for the services of the 24-year-old.
“He’s a player United have certainly got their eye on. Signing a new striker appears to have become a priority for Amorim since his arrival, and there are a few options they’ve been considering," said Brown.
He continued:
“We’ve spoken before about the likes of Viktor Gyokeres who they are watching. They’re keeping a close eye on his [Vlahovic’s] situation at Juventus to see whether he would be a viable option for their side."
He concluded:
“If, for whatever reason, Juventus decide to let him go, I’m sure United will be right there. They won’t be the only club interested of course, but Man United will always believe that they can beat other teams to the signing of these types of players."
The Red Devils signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna this summer, but the Dutchman has failed to live up to expectations so far. Manchester United also have Rasmus Hojlund on their roster, but the Dane is not the finished article yet.
Dusan Vlahovic could be a fine option for the job, but Arsenal apparently have their eyes on him as well. The Gunners are looking for an upgrade on Gabriel Jesus, who has been a disappointment so far.
The north London side have previously been linked with a move for the Serbian, but a transfer has failed to materialize so far. His contract at Turin runs until 2026.
How many goals have Arsenal and Manchester United scored this season?
Arsenal may be missing a proven No. 9 in their team, but they have had no trouble scoring goals this season. The Gunners have registered 34 goals in 17 games in the league and are third in the table.
The north London side have scored 56 times in 26 games across competitions this season. Arsenal are third in the Champions League table as well, with four wins and a defeat in the tournament.
Manchester United, meanwhile, have struggled to find the back of the net this season, although they have shown signs of improvement of late. Ruben Amorim took charge of the Red Devils last month and is trying to get them back on track.
Manchester United have scored just 21 goals in 16 games this season and are 13th in the league table, 11 points behind Arsenal. They have found the back of the net 48 times in 25 games across competitions. The Red Devils are seventh in the Europa League table after six games.
