Manchester United have set their sights on Atalanta defensive midfielder Ederson, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg. The Brazilian has been in superb form for the Serie A giants of late and played a key role in their Europe League triumph last season.

Ederson registered seven goals and one assist from 53 games across competitions last campaign. This year, he has one goal and one assist from 17 games.

The Red Devils are planning for the future under Ruben Amorim, who has taken over from Erik ten Hag this month. The Portuguese manager wants to add more intensity to the middle of the park amid the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

The Danish midfielder's contract at Old Trafford expires next summer and he hasn't been offered a new deal yet. Casemiro, meanwhile, has also shown signs of regression.

Manchester United have already roped in Manuel Ugarte as the Brazilian's long-term replacement this summer. The Uruguayan has previously played under Amorim at Sporting CP.

However, the Portuguese head coach wants further additions to the middle of the park and has set his sights on Ederson. Meanwhile, Manchester City are also interested in the Brazilian midfielder.

The Red Devils are looking to bolster the position as early as the winter and are considering a move for Ederson in January. The 25-year-old is under contract with Atalanta until 2027, so prising him away won't be easy.

However, Manchester United have a cordial relationship with their Serie A counterparts, thanks to the recent transfers of Rasmus Hojlund and Amad Diallo. As such, they could have an advantage in the race.

Can Manchester United pick up a win against Ipswich Town on Sunday?

Manchester United are likely to start in Ruben Amorim's preferred 3-4-3 formation against Ipswich Town on Sunday (November 24) in a league clash. The Premier League giants will enter the game at 12th on the table after 11 games.

The Red Devils can climb up to 10th in the league with a win against the newly promoted side, but it is easier said than done. Ipswich have failed to live up to the promise under Kieran McKenna this season and are 19th on the table.

However, they arrive at the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur before the international break (November 10). As such, Amorim could have a real test on his hand in his first game as Manchester United's head coach.
