Manchester United are eyeing Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens as a potential replacement for Andre Onana, as per The Sun. The 22-year-old Belgian, who left Club Brugge for Antwerp in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer, is reportedly rated at £20 million.
The decision to replace Onana has only been strengthened by the goalkeeper's recent run of poor form under new head coach Ruben Amorim. In the Portuguese manager's first seven Premier League games, the Cameroonian goalkeeper has conceded 12 goals.
Concerningly for the Red Devils, Onana conceded directly from a corner kick against Wolverhampton Wanderers, who beat them 2-0 at the Molineux on December 26. The same happened in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals against Tottenham Hotspur when second-choice Altay Bayindir conceded directly from a corner kick, with the game ending 4-3 in Spurs' favor.
According to The Sun, these performances from their goalkeepers have led Manchester United to consider their options in the transfer market. Signing a goalkeeper was not on their priority list, having only gotten Onana from Inter Milan for reportedly around €50 million in the summer of 2023. However, they are now contemplating a new goalkeeper in 2025.
Their potential target, Senne Lammens, has had a better run of form than Andre Onana this season. In the Jupiler Pro League, the 22-year-old has conceded 21 goals and kept five clean sheets in 20 games. Onana, on the other hand, has conceded 24 goals and kept six clean sheets in 18 Premier League games.
Ruben Amorim speaks about Manchester United players after Wolves defeat
Ruben Amorim has spoken about his players after they endured a 2-0 loss at the hands of Wolves at the Molineux. The concerning result was their fourth Premier League loss in five games, raising serious questions about their form this season.
The Red Devils have also failed to score in their last two league games, with Bournemouth beating them 3-0 at Old Trafford on December 22. When asked what he thought about his players after the Wolves defeat, Amorim told the press (via Manchester United's website):
"They need time to change as they are changing completely and the way of playing is hard on them and it is also hard on the staff as well to pass all the information on.
"Then when you do not get the results that is even harder. We have to believe and we have to continue. It is a tough moment and we have to focus on the next game."
Manchester United have their next Premier League game against Newcastle United at Old Trafford on December 30, their final match this year.
