Manchester United are locked in a three-horse race with Arsenal and Liverpool for the services of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes, according to The Sun. The 23-year-old has registered two goals and one assist from 20 games across competitions this season, all of which have been starts.
Gomes remains a key figure for the Midlands club, who are keen to tie him down to a new deal. The Brazilian joined Wolves in 2023 from Flamengo in a £15m move and his contract runs until 2028.
His efforts have now turned heads at multiple clubs across the Premier League. Manchester United are planning for midfield reinforcements amid the uncertain futures of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.
The Dane has entered the final six months of his contract and hasn't been offered a new deal yet. Meanwhile, the Red Devils could also look to offload Casemiro, who is no longer the player he once was.
Manchester United have apparently identified Gomes as an option to address the situation. However, the Brazilian also has admirers at Arsenal as well as Liverpool.
The Gunners are sweating on the future of Thomas Partey and Jorginho, with both players' contracts set to expire this summer. The north London side roped in Mikel Merino to bolster their midfield last year but remain on the hunt for further additions.
Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Gomes, although Wolves have no desire to let him go in January. The Midlands club are likely to demand a premium fee to consider his departure at the end of this season.
Are Arsenal eyeing a Manchester United ace?
Arsenal have reportedly contacted Manchester United regarding a move for Marcus Rashford. The English forward's future at Old Trafford has been thrown up in the air after struggling for chances under Ruben Amorim.
Rashford has seven goals and three assists from 24 games across competitions for the Red Devils this season. However, he has fallen out of favor under Ruben Amorim and hasn't featured in the last six games.
The 27-year-old hasn't been in his element since signing a new deal in the summer of 2023. It now appears that Manchester United have run out of patience with the player and are ready to cash in on him in January.
Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation and want him at the Emirates. The Red Devils are apparently ready to let Rashford go for £20.9m.
