Manchester United are reportedly set to face competition from Newcastle United for the signature of Tyler Dibling. Both clubs are interested in signing the youngster in the summer.
The 18-year-old has impressed this season in the Premier League despite Southampton's terrible campaign. The Saints sit at the bottom of the table after their promotion with just six points in 19 games. At this moment, they are the prime candidates to get relegated. If it happens, a number of their players could leave the club, including Dibling.
As per Caught Offside, Manchester United are interested in signing the right winger. However, they will face competition from Newcastle, who were also linked with Dibling in 2022. He, however, joined Chelsea's academy for a couple of months before returning to Southampton.
Newcastle's sporting director Paul Mitchell reportedly has some good connections with the Saints. Hence, it could prove to be a big hindrance for Manchester United in their pursuit of the Englishman.
Dibling has made 26 senior appearances for Southampton, scoring two goals and providing two assists. All four of his goal contributions have come in 21 games across competitions this season.
When Russell Martin spoke about Tyler Dibling potentially joining Manchester United
Some reports earlier this season claimed that Manchester United have seen a bid for Tyler Dibling being rejected by Southampton. Former Saints manager Russell Martin spoke about these reports and the youngster's contract situation. He said (via Caught Offside):
“I was told some rumours about Man Utd, one was a bid of £21m. I’m not sure you’ll get his left foot for that. We have offered him a contract, a really good contract for someone his age. At the minute, I don’t think his agent agrees, so that’s where we’re at.”
“I think Tyler wants it done, I think Tyler’s parents want it done, so we’ll see how long that takes. There is an option. We can extend. I don’t think we want to do that – we want to reward Tyler for his performances.
“I’ve spoken to Tyler’s mum and dad about it, I’ve spoken to Tyler, but then I’m not involved in any of the negotiations – that’s down to Phil [Parsons, chief executive] and the gang, the owners and Tyler’s agent – and that’s where it gets tricky.”
Dibling's contract with Southampton is set to expire in 2027. As per Transfermarkt, his market value is €22 million.
