Manchester United have reportedly identified Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) left-back Nuno Mendes as a preferred replacement for Luke Shaw. The Reds Devils will look to replace the England international amid his injury struggles.
Shaw has suffered multiple recurring injuries for most of his Manchester United career. Last season, he managed just 1180 minutes in 15 games across competitions. His injury problems have continued this season, with a knee and calf injury ruling him out for most of the campaign.
The 29-year-old has made only two league appearances and a 30-minute cameo against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. All three appearances came under new manager Ruben Amorim. However, he has not been named in the squad for five consecutive matches since then.
Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are currently the only natural left back in the club's rank. Malacia has had his fair share of injury problems and has yet to become a regular at Old Trafford. Manchester United will now look to rope in a new left-back in the upcoming transfer window
According to Caught offside (via Utd Xclusive on X), the Red Devils have identified Nuno Mendes as their ideal replacement for Shaw. The reports claim that the PSG star is aware of the Premier League giants' interest in him and is pleased about it.
Mendes, 22, joined PSG from Sporting CP in 2021, first on loan before he was snapped up permanently the following year. The Portugal international has since amassed five goals and 13 assists in 99 games, winning three league titles, the Coupe de France, and Trophee des Champions.
This term, he has contributed two goals and two assists in 16 matches across competitions for Luis Enrique's side. Mendes has a market valuation of €55 million, as per Transfermrkt, and is contracted to PSG until 2026. Thus, the Red Devils could be forced to fork out a sizeable fee if they are to recruit him into their fold.
