Manchester United are reportedly prepared to pay more than €60 million to sign 25-year-old Napoli forward Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window. The Nigeria international currently plays for Galatasaray on loan, after opting for a temporary exit from the Italian giants in the summer.
He was frozen out of the Napoli squad, despite being one of their most important players, as he pushed for a permanent transfer. However, the Italian club would not let him leave without a massive fee, which made it difficult for other European clubs to sign him.
He eventually decided on a loan move to Galatasaray, where he has scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 13 games. It is no surprise that this has spurred renewed interest in his services, with clubs like Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Juventus taking notice.
However, according to El Nacional, Manchester United are leading the race, as they look to bid over €60 million to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli this January. The club are currently in 13th position on the Premier League table, and they are intent on improving their offense.
Despite having strikers like Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, head coach Ruben Amorim has set his sights on Osimhen. Indeed, Zirkzee and Hojlund have a combined five Premier League goals, which does not bode well for Manchester United's attack. They believe that a player like Osimhen could help them turn the tide and increase their Premier League rankings.
According to the report, Napoli are interested in negotiating with the Red Devils, and a move could well be in the works this January.
Ruben Amorim speaks after Manchester United lose to Nottingham Forest
Ruben Amorim has spoken about Manchester United's 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on December 7. This is the Red Devils' second Premier League defeat in a row, after losing 2-0 to Arsenal on December 4.
After the loss to Forest, Amorim spoke to the press, admitting that there was not much quality in how his side played. He said to Sky Sports:
"It was a tough game, we started the two halves really bad. It was hard to pass on some calm to the players and continue the game as we should do. We had not a lot of quality but a lot of heart... It's a tough context but we have to understand this is a long journey and that's what our jobs are."
He also compared his time at Sporting with Manchester United, adding:
"I had this and worse in Sporting in the beginning. I know the feeling for me is the same... So we need time and we need to continue to work in the same way every day."
The Red Devils have their next test on December 12 against Viktoria Plzen at the Doosan Arena in Czechia for their Europa League clash.
