Manchester United set to hold transfer talks with 28-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper; Premier League rivals also interested in signing him: Reports

Manchester United are allegedly set to hold talks with Brazilian side Botafogo over a potential transfer of John Victor, who has also drawn interest from a number of other European teams.

Victor, 28, has recently turned heads with his impressive performances between the sticks for Botafogo. He helped his current club win the Brasileiro Serie A title and the Copa Libertadores trophy earlier this year after departing Santos.

Now, according to Caught Offside, Manchester United are interested in adding Victor to their squad in the January transfer window. They are set to face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Galatasaray in the ongoing race.

Victor, who is currently valued at over £8 million by Botafogo, could prove to be a fine signing for Manchester United should he join them. He would provide good competition for places to Andre Onana, who has proven to be error-prone.

Since leaving Santos earlier this January, Victor has made 51 total appearances for Botafogo. The towering shot-stopper has registered 22 clean sheets and conceded just 41 goals for his club, where he has a contract until June 2027.

Manchester United star likened to Ryan Giggs

Earlier on Sunday, Amad Diallo helped Manchester United record a 2-1 Premier League win at Manchester City. The 22-year-old won the penalty for his team's equaliser in the 88th minute and netted the winner in the 90th minute.

Speaking to OLBG, ex-Manchester United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen claimed that Diallo is somewhat similar to Red Devils legend Ryan Giggs. He elaborated (h/t Metro):

"Amad Diallo could be a long-term star for Ruben Amorim. I've been really impressed with him so far and I'm sure he's impressed the manager in the wing-back position. He is quick, direct and brave. He can score, create and he can definitely have an impact in the long-term. I can see comparisons to Ryan Giggs. The way he picks up the ball and runs with it, I can see it in his balance."

Sharing more thoughts on the left-footed winger, Meulensteen added:

"He's also impressed in the way he has adapted to the wing-back role, but we'll have to see how he gets on in the defensive side against opposition with more attacking prowess. Antony plays in a similar position but I can't see him doing that job, he wouldn't have the discipline. Amad, on the other hand, he's taken it in his stride."

So far this campaign, Diallo has scored four goals and contributed six assists in 23 matches across all competitions for Ruben Amorim's outfit.
