According to journalist David Ornstein (via TEAMtalk), Kobbie Mainoo is not considered "untouchable" at Manchester United. This comes amid heavy speculation around fellow academy graduate Marcus Rashford's future at Old Trafford.
Mainoo was one of the breakout players at Old Trafford last season and he played a vital role in the Red Devils' midfield. In 32 appearances last season, the Englishman scored five goals and registered one assist.
However, the youngster has struggled with injuries and has been inconsistent in recent times. Mainoo has failed to provide any goal contributions in 17 games this season.
The 19-year-old is an energetic midfielder and his ability to exploit little pockets of space in attack is outstanding. He's also intuitive with the ball and can feature in multiple positions in midfield.
The aforementioned report also claims that Mainoo is more likely to leave Old Trafford due to his contract situation alongside Alejandro Garnacho and Rashford. Mainoo is contracted at Old Trafford till June 2027, but there are currently no talks as regards an extension.
Meanwhile, Rashford has missed the Red Devils' last six games across all competitions. It appears that his relationship with Ruben Amorim has fallen apart and he might leave Old Trafford in the ongoing January transfer window.
Rashford has scored seven goals and registered three assists in 24 games this season. The Englishman is contracted at Manchester United till June 2028.
Manchester United are interested in signing Nuno Mendes - Reports
According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils are in contact with Nuno Mendes of Paris Saint-Germain. The reporter also claimed that United are interested in signing Mendes in the summer.
The Red Devils' interest in signing Mendes could be due to the consistent injury concerns of Luke Shaw. In 17 appearances this season, Mendes has scored two goals and registered two assists.
However, the Portuguese international's contract is set to expire in June 2026 and PSG are looking to extend it. Thus, it remains to be seen if he would turn down an extension offer at PSG and sign for Manchester United.
