Both Manchester clubs are interested in Atalanta man Ederson

Manchester United are prepared to commence talks for the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who is also on the radar of Manchester City, as per TeamTalk. The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their midfield with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen approaching the twilight of their respective careers.

Ederson was one of the most impressive players for Atalanta in their successful 2023-24 campaign which saw them win the UEFA Europa League. The 25-year-old Brazilian has been at the club since 2022, having joined from fellow Serie A side Salernitana.

The Red Devils have scouted the midfielder extensively and are waiting for final approval from the board to make a move for him. They will face competition from Manchester City for his signature, who are said to have the Brazilian's name penned down as a January target.

Atalanta will request a fee of around £50 million for Ederson. Pep Guardiola's side are said to have other targets in their sight as well, including Englishman Adam Wharton and Martin Zubimendi.

Manchester United and Manchester City are both interested in Ederson because of his versatility in the midfield. The Brazil international has scored two goals and provided an assist in 22 appearances across all competitions for Serie A leaders Atalanta this season.

Manchester City eyeing move for Manchester United target - Reports

Manchester City are reportedly looking at the possibility of signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who was the subject of multiple offers from Manchester United in the summer. TBR Football report that the Cityzens are in the market to strengthen their squad after a dismal first half of the season.

Pep Guardiola's side are fifth in the Premier League and already knocked out of the Carabao Cup. They have also been plagued by injuries this season, with several of their defenders spending time on the sidelines due to respective injury issues. Only Ruben Dias has largely managed to stay fit consistently, among their central defenders.

Manchester United reportedly tried in vain to sign Branthwaite this summer, but Everton stood firm in their resolve to keep the 22-year-old. The Cityzens may be able to sign him for around £80 million as they look to strengthen their defence once the January transfer window opens.
