According to reports from journalist David Ornstein, Manchester United will reluctantly consider the sale of homegrown talents like Kobbie Mainoo in this transfer window. The Red Devils are working towards maintaining their stance on the good side of the Premier League's financial rules, and a sale or two could be in the works.

The report from Ornstein (via New York Times) explained that United are not particularly looking to sell any of their homegrown players. However, if a suitable offer were to come from another club this January, they would not be averse to sitting at the negotiation table.

Their reason behind potentially selling homegrown talent is mainly Financial Fairplay Rules. Any player who came through the academy can be sold for pure profit. Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and winger Alejandro Garnacho have broken into the first team successfully, but they represent some of the Red Devils' most exciting homegrown talent.

Another homegrown player in the first team is Marcus Rashford, who is on the verge of an exit from Old Trafford following his bombshell interview. The 27-year-old forward publicly revealed that he was ready for a new challenge and spoke about leaving the club.

While he remains a Manchester United player, he has been frozen out of matchday squads in recent games. Indeed, he has not played a single minute since their 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest on December 7. Despite being called up to the bench in their 2-0 loss against Newcastle United on December 30, he did not play in the match.

While his exit from United seems more likely, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are different. The duo have played in nearly every Premier League match under Ruben Amorim this season. Mainoo missed out on their 2-0 loss to Arsenal on December 12, and Garnacho missed out on their 2-1 win over Manchester City on December 15.

Aside from these, both players have been in every other matchday squad under Amorim in the league. If the club were to agree to a sale for either player, it would certainly open up a hole in the Manchester United first team.

Ruben Amorim provides reason for Marcus Rashford's unavailability in Manchester United's clash against Liverpool

Ruben Amorim has explained why Marcus Rashford was unavailable in Manchester United's 2-2 draw against Liverpool on January 5. While the forward has not played in recent games, the press has often asked the head coach for an update on his situation at the club.

According to Amorim, Rashford's unavailability was not due to any disciplinary issues. Rather, the 27-year-old had fallen ill. The Portuguese boss said (via The Daily Mail):

"Marcus Rashford is still ill, so he's not available for the game today... It’s the same situation. At the moment he is ill. He is not training. We will see in the future, but this is like a normal player, then I make a selection. So it’s the same.
"I think he is going to be out, this week he is out. We will see, but I think this week he is out."

Manchester United will return to the pitch on January 12, when they face Arsenal in the FA Cup Third Round at the Emirates Stadium.
