Pep Guardiola has set his sights on two German players he wants Manchester City to sign in the summer of 2025. He is reportedly interested in making moves for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz and exciting Bayern Munich winger Jamal Musiala.
Wirtz burst into the limelight last season, helping Leverkusen to a domestic double. They won the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal without losing a single match. Leverkusen also reached the Europa League final, losing 3-0 to Atalanta. Wirtz was in fine form, scoring 18 goals and providing 19 assists in 49 games across competitions.
Jamal Musiala, meanwhile, impressed individually, despite Bayern Munich's struggles. He scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in 38 games in all competitions.
Both youngsters are transfer priorities for Pep Guardiola. Manchester City have not gone on a spending spree in two seasons, which will reportedly give the club an enormous transfer war chest.
According to The Sun (via Tribal Football), £350 million will be available for Guardiola to spend on players like Wirtz and Musiala. The duo is expected to take over the reins from older players who may be nearing their final years at the Etihad.
Pep Guardiola has contemplated Manchester City exit following fourth consecutive Premier League title
Rumors may link Pep Guardiola's Manchester City with Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. However, there are no guarantees that the City boss would be willing to stay at the club beyond 2025.
After he lifted his sixth Premier League title in just seven years and fourth on the trot, the Spanish manager opened up about his future. Guardiola claimed he was nearer to leaving the club. Despite winning so consistently and leading the Cityzens to the continental treble in the 2022-23 season, he said (via Eurosport):
"The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying. Eight years, maybe nine, right now my feeling is that I want to stay next season. We'll talk to the club, we have time to talk next season because I have to see the players as well, if they follow me they follow us. I will stay and during the season we will talk, but eight or nine years - we will see."
Guardiola will certainly be missed when he does make the inevitable decision to step down as the manager of Manchester City.
