The Magpies, who are currently without Sven Botman owing to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, are keen to hand Ramos a deal until June 2026. They feel that the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner could help them secure an European spot at the end of the ongoing season.
Last term, Ramos started all 37 of his appearances across competitions for Sevilla and helped his boyhood team keep eight clean sheets. He contributed seven goals and also one assist in 3,301 minutes of action.
Fabrizio Romano insists Real Madrid are keen to appoint Bundesliga manager next summer
Speaking on his YouTube channel, acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano asserted that Los Blancos have identified Xabi Alonso as the top candidate to replace Carlo Ancelotti. He said (h/t Football Transfers):
"Let me repeat what I've been saying for months: he's the favoured candidate of Florentino Perez. So, in case at the end of the season or at any other moment Real Madrid decide to change manager, Alonso is the favourite. Perez believes Alonso is a top coach and a top guy. They know him from when he was a player."
Sharing more thoughts on the Bayer Leverkusen boss, Romano added:
"He's super appreciated. He’s got everything as a player, as a coach, and he has the perfect Real Madrid style. In 2025, Alonso will decide his future. Bayer Leverkusen dream and hope he will continue for one more season, but they know internally that Alonso is aware of the strong interest from Madrid."
Alonso, who played for Real Madrid from 2009 to 2014, helped Leverkusen lift two silverwares, including their first Bundesliga title, last campaign.
So far, the 42-year-old has guided Leverkusen to 70 wins and just 13 losses in 108 matches across all competitions. The Bundesliga outfit have scored 246 goals and conceded 113 goals under the Spanish manager.
