Real Madrid to battle Manchester United and Manchester City for €50m-rated Serie A star: Reports

According to Diario AS, Real Madrid are set to battle Premier League clubs Manchester City and Manchester United for the services of Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The Brazilian’s impressive performances this season in Serie A have made him a subject of interest from many European heavyweights.

The midfielder joined Atalanta from Serie B side Salernitana in 2022. In his two-plus years plus stay in Bergamo, he has seen his stocks rise as he has become a key player for La Dea. In the ongoing season, the 25-year-old has featured in every match that he was eligible to play for Atalanta, who are currently second on the Serie A table.

Manchester City have reportedly identified Ederson as the ideal replacement for Rodri, who suffered a season-ending injury in September 2024. A few days later, it was reported that Manchester United were hot on the player’s heels and were looking to sign him in the January transfer window.

Real Madrid have recently emerged as one of Ederson’s suitors, largely due to the player’s impressive display against Los Blancos in the UEFA Champions League in December. While Martin Zubimendi has been identified as a potential replacement for Aurelien Tchouaméni, who has been linked with an exit, Real Madrid see Ederson as a backup if they fail to sign Zubimendi.

However, amid interest from several suitors, Atalanta are unwilling to part ways with Ederson in the current transfer window. Ederson’s contract with La Dea will expire in 2027. His current market value is €50 million as per Transfermarkt.

Manchester United's reported pursuit of Viktor Gyökeres, who is also a target for Real Madrid and Manchester City, has suffered a slight setback as the player has decided not to move in the ongoing January transfer window.

The Red Devils are going through a horrid time and are currently languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table. Their struggles in the final third have persisted, and they are reportedly keen to fix that by signing a striker in the ongoing transfer window.

Amorim is hoping to bring Gyökeres to Old Trafford to solve his goalscoring problems. Meanwhile, clubs like Barcelona, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich are also interested in the Sporting CP forward.

But according to Sky Germany, Viktor Gyökeres has told his management that he doesn’t intend to leave Sporting in the January transfer window. He wants to finish the season with the Portuguese giants.

Gyökeres has been a key figure for Sporting in the ongoing season. He has scored 31 goals and provided six assists in 29 appearances.
