Real Madrid have decided to invest in their backline in the winter after their shocking defeat to Barcelona on Saturday, according to Defensa Central. Los Blancos suffered a 0-4 defeat in the El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu in LaLiga.

Hansi Flick's men tore apart the reigning Spanish champions and have now forced them to consider defensive reinforcements in January. Real Madrid want to bring in an able replacement for Dani Carvajal, who ruptured his ankle this month and won't be playing again this season.

Lucas Vazquez has failed to impress so far and was torn to shreds by the Catalans on Saturday. Los Blancos already have their eyes on Trent Alexander-Arnold for the job, with the player's contract set to expire next summer.

It was previously believed that the LaLiga champions are planning a Bosman move for the player at the end of this season. However, Carvajal's injury had accelerated their plans and they now want the Liverpool man in January.

The Reds' efforts to tie the 26-year-old down to a new deal haven't been fruitful so far. They could consider a cut-price offer for the Englishman at the turn of the year, rather than lose him for free next summer.

Real Madrid also want a new defender in the winter, with David Alaba yet to return to full fitness. Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao haven't been at their best this summer and the club are eager to rope in a new leader at the back.

Who did Real Madrid sign this summer?

Real Madrid signed their long-term target Kylian Mbappe this summer. The French superstar arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Unfortunately, Mbappe is yet to hit true form with Los Blancos and was a disappointment in his first El Clasico. Meanwhile, the LaLiga giants also welcomed Endrick to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Interestingly, Real Madrid initially wanted to sign Leny Yoro as well to replace Nacho Fernandez, who had left the Santiago Bernabeu. However, they refused to match Lille's asking price for the teenage defender.

Manchester United ultimately pipped them to the player's signature and Los Blancos ended the summer without signing a defender. That decision has come back to haunt them, with Aurelien Tchouameni having to cover at the back at times.

The club will have the chance to rectify their error at the turn of the year. However, a final decision on reinforcements will depend on the team's performance between now and the end of December.
