Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on 28-year-old Spanish international Fabian Ruiz for the 2025 summer transfer window. According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), the reigning La Liga champions are keen on strengthening their midfield, with the Paris Saint-Germain player emerging as a key target.
Fabian Ruiz has been a regular figure in European football since making his breakthrough at Real Betis, where he graduated from the club's youth system. After a successful spell at Napoli, during which he became a regular for both club and country, the 28-year-old midfielder signed for Ligue 1 powerhouse PSG in August 2022.
Ruiz’s time at Parc des Princes has been a mixed bag as he hasn't performed at a consistent level regularly. Nevertheless, the Spanish midfielder still made 74 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions, contributing six goals and ten assists. But his head-turning performances in Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 triumph haven't gone unnoticed.
Several elite clubs, including Real Madrid, are showing interest in his services. The Spanish giants, who have long admired the midfielder, are reportedly on the lookout for reinforcements after Toni Kroos' retirement and Luka Modric's reduced role at the club.
Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has been a long-time admirer of the Spanish midfielder and is believed to be the driving force behind the club’s interest in the player. Ancelotti had previously attempted to bring Ruiz to the Santiago Bernabeu, and his aspirations may finally come to fruition in the summer of 2025.
While it remains to be seen how much PSG will demand for the midfielder, his current contract which runs for another three years, suggests that the French champions will not allow him to leave for a meager transfer fee.
