Real Madrid are reportedly set to table two contract offers for Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold. The right-back's contract with the Reds will expire in the summer of 2025 as he enters the last six months of his deal tomorrow.
While Liverpool are currently enjoying a decent run of form under Arne Slot, they are likely to lose some of their key players on a Bosman transfer at the end of the season. Alexander-Arnold is unfortunately one of those four players whose contract will run out in June 2025.
Following widespread speculation about Arnold’s future at Anfield, Real Madrid expressed interest in acquiring the player on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Adding to the intrigue, Arnold is said to have informed Liverpool’s directors of his desire to join the Spanish giants next summer, influenced by the presence of his England teammate Jude Bellingham.
Another report has now emerged about Los Blancos’ situation with the wantaway player. According to Spanish radio network Cadena SER, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is preparing two contract offers for Alexander-Arnold.
If the England defender moves to Santiago Bernabeu in the January transfer window, he will be offered a four-and-a-half-year deal. He will be offered a four-year deal if he joins the club in the summer. Perez is keen on submitting an offer to the Merseyside club in January with the hope of getting the deal done right away.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently said that Arnold will finish the season with Liverpool and will not leave the club in January.
"He will love it there" – Trent Alexander-Arnold told he will enjoy life at Real Madrid
Former Premier League striker Gary Lineker has weighed in on Alexander-Arnold’s potential move to Real Madrid. Lineker pointed out Los Blancos’ transfer modus operandi in recent times while tipping Arnold to succeed at the Spanish capital. He also claimed that the departure of the 26-year-old will be a huge loss for Liverpool.
Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast (via Daily Express):
"It seems to make a lot of sense to me. [Signing players on a] free transfer is how Real Madrid have done things recently. He is really close to Jude Bellingham and would fit in there beautifully. He would be a massive success. They wouldn’t focus on his defending critically as we do here – overly in my opinion.
''It’s a great fit and would be a huge loss for Liverpool. But they have a youngster coming through in Conor Bradley who has done really well. I think it is highly likely that will happen although I have no inside information whatsoever."
Speaking on Arnold’s future ahead of a possible move to Real Madrid, Lineker continued:
''How do you say no to Real Madrid? Liverpool is an incredible football club, but a fresh challenge, playing abroad, I did it myself [moving to Spain]. Playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona is truly special."
''However strong and powerful and rich the Premier League is, the world’s greats still go to Barcelona and Real Madrid. The only exception in recent times is Erling Haaland. That aside, they go there. He will love it there. It will be amazing. They’ll worship and appreciate his passing range. He is in the prime of his career. I wouldn’t begrudge him."
Arnold is a product of Liverpool's youth academy. He has scored 24 goals and provided 89 assists for the Reds in 352 appearances across competitions.
