Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has reportedly issued warnings to Rodrygo, Ferland Mendy and Aurelien Tchouameni to improve their performances. This is according to a report by Fichajes.net (via Madrid Universal).
The notice of warning was issued in the aftermath of Madrid's 2-1 win over Valencia on (January 3). In the post-match conference after the game against Valencia, Carlo Ancelotti claimed that he was disappointed with the first-half performance.
However, he was pleased with the second-half resurgence of his squad as they scored two late goals to secure a win. In the game's aftermath, Pérez reportedly spoke to the above-mentioned players as their performances have been sub-par.
Rodrygo has been a key player for Real Madrid in attack in recent years. Despite the reported decline in his performance, he has scored five goals and provided four assists in 21 games this season.
Meanwhile, Mendy's future at the Bernabeu has been a subject of speculation in recent months. The Frenchman's contract expires in the summer and Madrid have not offered to extend his contract. It implies that they might be willing to listen to offers for the left-back.
Mendy has also struggled with his fitness in recent times. He has also been inconsistent in defense having failed to offer any goal contribution in 18 appearances this season. While one could make an excuse that he's a defender, Real Madrid's left and right backs are always known for offering meaningful contributions in attack.
Finally, Tchouameni has been criticized for his performances by multiple pundits this season. However, it can be said he has mostly featured as a makeshift center-back together with Antonio Rudiger in defense.
Playing outside his preferred defensive midfield role could be one of the factors that might have affected his performance. Nonetheless, given his big-money €80 million move from Monaco to Madrid in July 2022, he's expected to deliver. Tchouameni has registered 21 appearances for Madrid this season.
How have Real Madrid performed in the La Liga this season?
Los Blancos are arguably one of the best-performing teams in the La Liga 2024-25 campaign so far. Ancelotti's men are the league leaders having registered 43 points from 19 league games. Real Madrid have also scored 43 goals in attack and conceded 19 goals in defense, leading to a goal difference of 24.
Los Blancos return to La Liga action against Las Palmas on January 19 after their Supercopa de Espana semifinal meeting with Mallorca on January 9.
