Real Madrid have reportedly put up the lockers used by former players, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham, for auction. The decision comes in the wake of the redevelopment of the Santiago Bernabeu and now these items are said to be auctioned for a good cause (via GOAL).
As per the aforementioned report, bidding for these lockers will begin at a whopping £10,000. However, a portion of the proceeds is set to go into the Real Madrid Foundation, while the remaining is towards recouping costs of the club's latest stadium renovation.
The popular auction house Sotheby's has been entrusted with offering these items to the public. Apart from Ronaldo and Beckham, lockers used by Zinedine Zidane, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema are also set to be sold.
These players were a massive part of Real Madrid's legacy and many would expect fans and collectors to be tempted with the prospect of owning these items. Ronaldo made 438 appearances across competitions for Los Blancos between 2009 and 2018, scoring 450 goals across competitions.
Arguably the biggest name among the lot, the Portuguese superstar also won the UEFA Champions League trophy four times and the La Liga title twice. Beckham and Zidane had shorter spells in the Spanish capital, with the former spending four years and the latter staying at the Santiago Bernabeu for five.
The former England international made 159 appearances across competitions for Real Madrid, bagging 20 goals and 51 assists. Meanwhile, Zidane played 227 matches for the La Liga giants, scoring 49 goals and assisting 67.
Teddy Sheringham says former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is welcome back at Manchester United
Ex-Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo is 39 years old and seemingly edging close to the end of his playing career. There have been suggestions that the Portuguese sensation could take up a role in coaching once he hangs up his boots.
Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has claimed that the Red Devils fans would welcome Ronaldo back now that the latter's countryman Ruben Amorim has been named head coach. However, he believes that the Al-Nassr forward is destined for other things. He told Flash Score (via GOAL):
"I think that Cristiano Ronaldo will follow in the path of David Beckham in doing things away from coaching, higher profile things around the world. I'm sure he'd be very, very welcome in any capacity coming back to the club, but I doubt that he'll be a coach.”
If Ronaldo does choose to go back to a previous club, he has a number of illustrious outfits to choose from. The attacker represented Real Madrid, Juventus, and Manchester United, among other teams.
