Real Madrid are second in the LaLiga table with 27 points, six points behind leaders Barcelona, who have played a game more. Carlo Ancelotti's team will next face Leganes in the league on Sunday, November 24.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are preparing to move for a French midfielder. Elsewhere, Los Blancos have received a boost in their plans to sign Cristian Romero.
On that note, let's look at the major Real Madrid transfer stories from November 20, 2024.
Liverpool eyeing Aurelien Tchouameni
According to Defensa Central, Liverpool are planning to move for Aurelien Tchouameni next summer. The French midfielder's future at Real Madrid has come under doubt following some unconvincing performances this season.
Tchouameni is under contract with Los Blancos until 2028 and has appeared 15 times across competitions this season, including 14 starts. He is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.
While Carlo Ancelotti has heavily relied on the 24-year-old, there's a belief that the player has failed to live up to expectations at the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid reportedly paid Monaco €100m for the player in 2022 and he was expected to fill Casemiro's boots at the club.
Despite his recent struggles, the Frenchman's stock remains high. Liverpool are Tchouameni's long-term admirers and are ready to test Los Blancos' resolve at the end of the season.
Real Madrid receive Cristian Romero boost
According to former club scout Mick Brown, Tottenham Hotspur could cash in on Cristian Romero at the end of this season. The Argentine has popped up on Real Madrid's radar lately as the club look for defensive reinforcements.
Carlo Ancelotti is a little short at the back with Eder Militao tearing his ACL earlier this month and David Alaba unlikely to return from injury until January. Los Blancos are eyeing multiple candidates to address the issue next year and apparently have Romero on their wish list.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown insisted that Spurs will have a decision on their hands if the LaLiga champions come calling.
“If the interest from Real Madrid is genuine, they’ve got a decision to make. There are some concerns about him at Tottenham because of their defensive issues. Now, there are a number of reasons for those issues and the blame isn’t solely on him, but as a big part of that defence, there are question marks about his performances," said Brown.
“He’s also error-prone which is something the team can’t really afford to carry in their situation. I think they could look at think, if we can get big money, we’ll take it and reinvest in a player who might provide that stability. It might not be worth the risk of destabilising the back line unless it’s big money though, it needs to be enough to reinvest properly,” he added.
Romero's contract with the north London side runs until 2027, so he is likely to cost a fat fee.
Los Blancos battling Barcelona for Joshua Kimmich
Real Madrid will lock horns with Barcelona for the services of Joshua Kimmich next summer, according to SPORT. The German midfielder has entered the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich and hasn't agreed to a new deal yet.
The Bavarian giants want him to take a pay cut and extend his stay at the Allianz Arena. However, Kimmich is reluctant to reduce his wage demands and is already assessing his options.
There's interest in the player's signature from the Premier League. However, the Spanish duo is leading the race for his services right now. Los Blancos believe they lack a player of Kimmich's profile in their roster and want him at the Santiago Bernabeu.
With Aurelien Tchouameni's future uncertain, Kimmich could also be a replacement for the Frenchman. Barcelona also have their eyes on the 29-year-old but their poor financial situation could give the edge to Real Madrid in this race.
