Real Madrid travel to the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on Thursday, January 9, to face Mallorca in the Supercopa de Espana semifinal. Carlo Ancelotti's team could set up an El Clasico final if they manage to pick up a win.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos have set their sights on a Serie A midfielder. Elsewhere, the LaLiga giants have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies.

On that note, let's look at the major Real Madrid transfer stories from January 9, 2024.

Real Madrid eyeing Ederson

Real Madrid have identified Atalanta midfielder Ederson as an option to strengthen their midfield, according to AS. The LaLiga champions are looking to reinforce their midfield this year and have their eyes on Martin Zubimendi.

However, there's likely to be intense competition for the Spaniard, who has been in inspired form for Real Sociedad of late. As such, Los Blancos are keeping their options open and have identified Ederson as an alternative.

The Brazilian has been outstanding for the Serie A side of late and was key to their Europa League triumph last season. Ederson has registered two goals and one assist from 25 games across competitions this campaign, helping his club sit second in the league table.

His efforts have impressed Real Madrid. However, prising him away from Atalanta won't be easy, as he is under contract until 2027.

Meanwhile, the Italian club are unlikely to sanction a departure in the middle of the season. However, they could be open to his exit this summer for around €60m. The player is also wanted at Manchester United, Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.

Alphonso Davies is ready to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich, according to AS. The Canadian speedster's contract with the Bavarian side expires at the end of this season and Real Madrid are reportedly planning to sign him for free this summer.

The German giants remain eager to keep Davies at the club and have been engaged in talks regarding renewal for a while. It now appears that their efforts are close to bearing fruit, with the 24-year-old reportedly ready to stay.

A meeting is reportedly scheduled for this week for another round of negotiations, which could help the club keep Davies at the Allianz Arena. That could be a huge setback for Los Blancos, who have been hot on his heels for a while.

RB Leipzig want Juanlu Sanchez

RB Leipzig have entered the race to sign Juanlu Sanchez, according to AS. Real Madrid are looking for a new right-back this year and have their eyes on Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Englishman's contract expires in just under six months and Los Blancos are plotting a Bosman move this summer. However, the LaLiga giants are also keeping their options open should the player agree to an extension at Anfield.

Real Madrid have reportedly identified Sevilla's Juanlu Sanchez as a fail-safe option for Alexander-Arnold. However, it is now being reported that RB Leipzig are planning a loan move for the Spaniard this month, with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Sevilla are reportedly willing to let him go for just €10m and could be open to a deal in January.
