Real Madrid are looking to quickly regroup following their disappointing 5-2 defeat at the hands of Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espana final over the weekend (January 12). Carlo Ancelotti's team next face Celta Vigo at home on Thursday (January 16) in the league.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos have entered the race to sign talented teenage midfielder Rodrigo Mendoza. Elsewhere, the LaLiga giants have come to a decision regarding their activity in the winter transfer window.

On that note, let's look at the major Real Madrid transfer stories from January 14, 2025.

Real Madrid have set their sights on Elche prodigy Rodrigo Mendoza, according to journalist Jorge C Picon. The LaLiga giants always have their eyes out for the next big talent on the land and have unearthed a gem in Mendoza.

The 19-year-old arrived at Elche in 2019 and has steadily climbed up the youth ranks to break into the first team. He has already played 15 games for the senior team this season, scoring two goals and setting up two more.

The Valencian club are aware of the rising interest in their prized asset and are ready to extract a premium fee for his services. However, the player's contract expires in 2025, so they may not have much of an advantage in negotiations.

Los Blancos are keeping a close eye on the situation and are ready to prise him away. With Toni Kroos retiring last summer and Luka Modric in the final lap of his career, Real Madrid are preparing for changes in the middle of the park.

Mendoza could help in their plans and be available for just €1m. Los Blancos have apparently initiated talks with Elche to prise the Spaniard away.

Real Madrid have decided against signing a new defender in January, according to MARCA. Los Blancos are currently without Eder Militao, who ruptured his ACL last November and is out for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, David Alaba is yet to feature after returning recently from a long spell on the sidelines due to an ACL injury. Carlo Ancelotti is light at the back and has had to deploy Aurelien Tchouameni alongside Antonio Rudiger in recent games.

The situation has prompted talk of defensive reinforcements this month, but the club have ruled it out. With Raul Asencio showing promise and Alaba back in the squad, the LaLiga champions believe they have enough personnel to see out the season.

Real Madrid receive Trent Alexander-Arnold boost

Liverpool have identified Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich as Trent Alexander-Arnold's replacement, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri. The English right-back's contract at Anfield expires in less than six months and he hasn't agreed to an extension yet.

Real Madrid have apparently made him a priority target and are plotting a Bosman move this summer. However, they are also open to a cut-price deal in January.

It was previously believed that the Reds were determined to tie the 26-year-old down to a new deal. However, it now appears that they have thrown in the towel.

Liverpool are ready to offer €25m for Kimmich this month, with the German's contract also expiring this summer. That could pave the path for Alexander-Arnold's move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
