Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has reportedly been dealt a huge blow as the Red Devils have no budget to bolster their squad this month.
Earlier this summer, the Old Trafford team splashed over £200 million to add five new players to their ranks. They signed Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, and Leny Yoro under former manager Erik ten Hag.
Now, according to Manchester Evening News, Amorim will have no option than to facilitate a host of outgoings to raise funds in the winter transfer window. Manchester United's hierarchy are willing to make moves only after selling stars.
When recently asked about potential January additions, Amorim replied:
"We don't have that possibility in January. You know the situation better than I [do]. It's not the case I am not arriving here and I can spend a lot of money, changing all the team. You know the situation so it's not a point to talk about it."
Now, Manchester United are allegedly hoping to part ways with Marcus Rashford. They could also let go of the likes of Casemiro, Antony, Christian Eriksen, and Harry Maguire in the winter transfer window to help their January recruitment plans.
Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand opines on out-of-form striker being booed by own fans
Earlier this Monday (December 30), Manchester United slumped to a 2-0 league loss against Newcastle United at home. The home fans booed Joshua Zirkzee off the pitch as the star was replaced by Kobbie Mainoo in the 33rd minute.
Speaking recently on his YouTube channel, Red Devils icon Rio Ferdinand offered his thoughts on the six-cap Netherlands international. He said (h/t Metro):
"I feel for him. I'm really, really gutted for him as a former professional footballer. To be dragged off after 30 minutes is hard to take and then the reaction in the stadium as well, there was some boos and stuff like that. It's difficult, man. My heart goes out to him and I hope he can recover and I hope he gets rebuilt from within, from the players and the manager."
Ferdinand, who played for the Red Devils between 2002 and 2014, added:
"The manager said, 'I'm going to go and speak to him because it was a tactical decision', but what I would say is that this isn't the first time we've seen this happen. We've seen better players come back from this, we've seen some bigger and better players dragged off at these times in a game and it's about having the resilience to come back as well."
Since leaving Bologna for £36 million earlier this summer, the 23-year-old has registered four goals and two assists in 27 total games for Manchester United.
