Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly willing to delay his move to Manchester United until Sporting's UCL clash against Manchester City on November 5. The Portuguese tactician is reportedly close to becoming the next Red Devils head coach.
Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was sacked by the management this week (October 28) following a poor start to the season. The nail in the coffin was their 2-1 loss to West Ham United on Sunday, leaving the Red Devils 14th in the Premier League table. Ten Hag oversaw four wins in 14 games across competitions this season, with only three wins in the Premier League. Ruud Van Nistelrooy will remain in charge on an interim basis until a permanent coach takes over.
Following Ten Hag's sacking, Ruben Amorim has been heavily linked to replace him at the Old Trafford. The Sun journalist Neil Custis reports that Amorim could delay his potential move to Manchester United until Sporting CP's Champions League clash against their rivals, Manchester City.
If Amorim takes over after November 5, his first game in charge could be United's clash against PAOK at home in the UEFA Europa League (November 7). His first league game would be a home game against Leicester City (November 10).
Nistelrooy will remain in charge for the games against Leicester City in the EFL Cup (October 30) and Chelsea in the Premier League (November 3).
"It's my choice" - Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim on Manchester United links
Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim has broken his silence about succeeding Erik ten Hag at Man United. The Portuguese coach said (via Daily Mail journalist Chris Wheeler):
“Manchester United is interested but it's my choice. Until everything is decided, we won't be making any noise. I have nothing useful to say. I will take on whatever I want to do, as I have always done.”
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United and Sporting CP are in negotiation about the 30-day notice period for Amorim. The Red Devils are reportedly ready to pay the manager's reported release clause of €10 million. However, if Amorim joins United after his 30-day notice period he could possible take charge after the November international break with the fixture against Ipswich Town (November 24).
Ruben Amorim took over the helm at Sporting CP from Braga in March 2020. The Portuguese tactician has overseen 162 wins in 228 games across competitions for Sporting. He led the club to win two Primeira Liga titles, two Portuguese League Cups, and one Portuguese Super Cup.
