Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is planning a move for Manchester United left-back Harry Amass, according to The Daily Mail. The Dutch manager took charge at the King Power Stadium in November last year after parting ways with the Red Devils.
Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford last summer to join former manager Erik ten Hag's backroom staff. When Ten Hag was sacked in October last year, the former striker stayed in charge as interim manager for four games, where he registered three wins.
Nistelrooy left Manchester United after Ruben Amorim took charge as the new head coach in November last year. The Dutchman watched Amass from up close during his brief time at Old Trafford and now wants the Foxes to move for the player.
The 17-year-old impressed in pre-season, and has been in the bench on five occasions this season. Despite the Red Devils' injury woes at the left-back position, Amass hasn't been considered for the role so far.
Amorim's new 3-4-3 system at Manchester United requires a specialist left-back rather than a traditional one, which has also affected the Englishman's involvement. Meanwhile, the club have agreed a move for Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon, who will join them in the summer.
The situation has added to speculation regarding Amass' future and Nistelrooy is now offering him a chance at regular football. Leicester City are languishing in 19th place in the Premier League and the Dutch manager is eyeing reinforcements to turn their season around.
How have Manchester United performed under Ruben Amorim?
Ruben Amorim's stay at Manchester United hasn't been rosy so far. The Portuguese arrived at Old Trafford with an enviable CV, having won the league with Sporting twice in four seasons.
However, Amorim is yet to find his feet in the Premier League, with the Red Devils currently 14th in the league table after 19 games. The Portuguese has overseen 11 games in charge across competitions, winning just four and losing six.
The current squad has struggled to adapt to his 3-4-3 system, and they are now on a run of four consecutive defeats. To make matters worse, Manchester United next face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, January 5, in the league.
The Red Devils are already 23 points behind the Reds, who are leading the title race right now. Amorim, as such, could be tempted to rope in squad investments this month.
