Lazio have reportedly opened talks with Manchester United about a £30 million swoop for Mason Greenwood. The Serie A club have made their interest in the English forward concrete.
The Daily Mail reports that talks between le Aquile and the Red Devils are moving positively. The proposed £30 million fee could rise with performance-related add-ons.
Lazio are long-term admirers of Mason Greenwood, 22, who spent last season on loan in La Liga with Getafe. He managed 10 goals and six assists in 36 games across competitions.
Manchester United are looking to sell the young attacker this summer, as he has one year left on his contract. He's also garnered interest from Serie A giants Juventus and Napoli.
Lazio are trying to tempt Greenwood with a move to the Stadio Olimpico by emphasizing he has the best chance of further progressing with them. They are positioning themselves in a similar light to Getafe, unlike Juve, where the stakes are much higher.
Mason Greenwood left Manchester United on loan last summer after being acquitted of sexual assault-related charges. Key witnesses withdrew from the case after his arrest in January 2022.
The one-cap England international has made 129 appearances for the Red Devils, posting 35 goals and 12 assists. He's unlikely to have a future with the Premier League giants or the Three Lions' national team.
Juventus are reportedly set to turn from Manchester United's Mason Greenwood to Jadon Sancho
Juve may pave the way for Lazio to seal Mason Greenwood's signature as they are set to change their target. The Sun reports that Manchester United's willingness to listen to offers for Jadon Sancho at around £40 million has enticed the Old Lady.
Sancho, 24, much like Greenwood, is increasingly likely to leave Old Trafford this summer. He fell out with Erik ten Hag last season and was banished from United's first team.
The English winger spent the second half of the season on loan at Borussia Dortmund. He appeared 21 times across competitions, registering three goals and as many assists.
Manchester United initially slapped a £50 million price tag on Sancho. They are now considering reducing that fee, which has alerted Juve and made them switch focus from Greenwood.
The Serie A giants could still swoop for Greenwood, but they would most likely do so on loan. They will have a new manager in charge next season, as Thiago Motta has replaced Massimilliano Allegri at the helm.
