Liverpool and Manchester City are both aiming to snap up Chelsea star Cole Palmer in the upcoming summer transfer window, as per journalist Simon Phillips.

Palmer, who is an attacking midfielder, has cemented himself as one of the best players in the Premier League since leaving Manchester City for an initial £40 million in 2023. He has contributed an impressive 36 goals and 20 assists in 65 league games for the Blues so far.

In his Substack column, Phillips provided insight into the English player's future at the west London outfit ahead of the summer window. He wrote (h/t Football365):

"Meanwhile, and I'm not saying we do sell him by the way, both Manchester City and Liverpool have been sniffing around Cole Palmer for the summer, with City making an enquiry recently."

Palmer, 22, could decide to join a new club with Chelsea in danger of not qualifying for the UEFA Champions League this season. He is expected to be slapped with an exorbitant price tag as his current deal will expire on June 2033.

Should Palmer opt to secure a switch to Liverpool in the future, he would emerge as a key starter ahead of Dominik Szoboszlai. He would also pop up as a vital first-team starter for Manchester City with Kevin De Bruyne set to depart this summer.

Former Chelsea star backs Liverpool transfer target to regain form

During a chat with betting outlet BetVictor Casino, ex-Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf backed Cole Palmer to bounce back to form. He said (h/t Football365):

"I think Cole Palmer's dip in form comes down to his age. He is still young, and he is going to have periods where he is not at his best. No one really expected him to reach such a high level during his time at Chelsea, especially not Pep Guardiola or he wouldn't have let him go! After a year and a half of being simply exceptional, it is normal that he will have a slight dip."

Leboeuf, who played for the Stamford Bridge outfit 204 times, added:

"Everybody knows that he has something special, and he will come back to his best once he regains his confidence. I have no doubt that he will be back to his best soon. He's different to other players who came out of nowhere, like [Barcelona's] Ansu Fati."

Palmer has failed to score a goal in his last 11 Premier League matches.

The Liverpool target has netted twice in 11 appearances for England.
