Manchester United have to pay Sporting an additional €5m for Ruben Amorim's coaching staff, according to A Bola. The Red Devils have already identified the Portuguese manager as Erik ten Hag's replacement.

The Dutch manager was relieved of his duties on Monday, following another disappointing defeat this season. Manchester United lost 2-1 to West Ham United at the London Stadium, their fourth loss in the nine games in the Premier League this campaign.

The Red Devils were also linked with Amorim over the summer, but opted to continue with Ten Hag. The former Ajax manager invested heavily in the squad over the summer, signing Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte.

However, the team showed little improvement on the pitch, registering just four wins in 14 games across competititons. The English giants have won just thrice in the league and are 14th in the table at the moment.

Manchester United have now moved quickly to secure Amorim. Sporting have already confirmed that the club are willing to pay the manager's €10m release clause.

However, the Lisbon-based club also want €5m for the coaching staff who will follow Amorim to Old Trafford. They are also holding out for an extra fee to speed up the entire process.

The Red Devils are in a hurry to get the deal done as soon as possible. Recent reports have suggested that they are aiming to have the Portuguese in the dugout for the game against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday, November 3.

Erik ten Hag took charge at Manchester United in the summer of 2022. He came with a huge reputation thanks to his exploits with Ajax and invested a small fortune to bring in Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia.

The Red Devils finished the campaign in third place, won the EFL Cup and reached the FA Cup final. He followed that up with more investments in the squad in the summer of 2023, and won the FA Cup last season.

However, the team finished eighth in the Premier League, their lowest position since the inception of the league. This season, though, things have only gotten worse.

Apart from their struggles in the league, Manchester United are yet to register a win in the Europa League, where they have drawn all three games. As such, the decision to sack Ten Hag hasn't surprised anyone.
