As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via GiveMeSport), Manchester United could see three players leave in January. Marcus Rashford, Victor Lindelof, and Christian Eriksen have all been linked with a move away.
Rashford has been linked with a move away for a while now. However, the speculation about his future has now increased after Ruben Amorim left him out of the squad for the last four games. The forward also commented that he's ready for a new challenge. While he could leave, he might find limited options in January, considering his wages of around £300,000 per week (as per Capology).
Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen are in the final few months of their contracts with Manchester United. Lindelof has made just nine appearances this season. He has been linked with a potential move to Leicester City since Ruud van Nistelrooy's appointment as their manager. Out of his nine appearances, three came under the Dutchman when he was United's interim manager.
Eriksen, on the other hand, was linked with a move to Real Betis last summer but a deal didn't go through. The Spanish side eventually signed Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham Hotspur. Hence, the Danish midfielder might have to look for other options if he is to leave in January.
However, as per Romano, both Eriksen and Lindelof might look to see out their contracts at Manchester United and leave in the summer instead.
Manchester United icon criticizes Marcus Rashford's recent comments
Marcus Rashford came through Manchester United's academy and has made 426 appearances for them, registering 138 goals and 63 assists. He has, however, faced immense criticism from fans and pundits in recent months due to his poor form. He recently suggested that he is ready for a new challenge and could leave Old Trafford.
The Red Devils' icon Jaap Stam, however, believes Rashford will be taking the 'easy way out' if he's to leave. He said:
"I think saying you want to leave is the easy way out because it’s been a tough period and he’s faced a lot of criticism for his performances, but we haven’t seen enough fight on the pitch.
“I think if he was showing that then there would be a different mood towards him and more credit being paid to him. Maybe it would be good for both him and the club for him to move on, but I would’ve liked to have seen him give everything for the club.”
In Rashford's absence in the last four games, Manchester United beat Manchester City but lost against Tottenham, Bournemouth, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He's expected to remain out of the squad when they host Newcastle United on Monday, December 30.
